In the summer of 2024 I fulfilled a long-standing wish to walk around the county of Lancashire, where I was born and where I lived until I was ten years old.
My pilgrimage began and ended at the great port and cathedral city of Liverpool, which was part of Lancashire until the 1970s. Getting as far north as the historic county town of Lancaster and the lovely river Lune, my walk took in everything from ancient crosses dating from the Anglo-Saxon period to a contemporary Pentecostal church (where I was invited in for lunch) and from the pre-Reformation Ladyewell Shrine near Preston to the world-famous Blackpool Tower!
An unforgettable time but one that made me realise that I need to return to Lancashire sooner rather than later, to explore more of the area’s unique Christian heritage.
